Iga Swiatek takes on Karolina Muchova in the French Open final at Roland Garros as the world No. 1 seeks to defend her women’s singles title.
Swiatek is aiming to add a third French Open title and a fourth Grand Slam overall, while the Pole could become the first woman to defend the French Open title since Justine Henin in 2007. The 22-year-old hasn’t still lost a set on the Paris beat this fortnight but was pushed hard by Beatriz Haddad Maia in the semi-finals.
Swiatek was due to face Aryna Sabalenka in the final but the world No. 2 was stunned by Muchova in the semis. The unseeded Czech saved a match point and battled 5-2 to reach her first Grand Slam final but remains a huge underdog against Swiatek on the Philippe Chatrier court.

After Stuttgart and Madrid, there was to be Roland Garros. The French Open final seemed to have been reserved for Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, the world No 1 and No 2, a clash between the two previous Grand Slam winners and the latest chapter in a blossoming rivalry.
Sabalenka had looked in unstoppable form at Roland Garros, even at times in Friday’s semi-final. She held serve with the chance to face Swiatek for the title; she even had a match point.
Then Karolina Muchova arrived.
