WASHINGTON — Donald Trump has turned on another former loyalist, this time former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

“RINOS and globalists can have it. FoxNews should only use REAL stars!!!” Trump said Tuesday night on his Truth Social website, drawing criticism from conservatives who have normally been sympathetic to the ultra-aggressive former president.

“He is completely unbalanced” tweeted Marc Thiessensenior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, Washington Post columnist and Fox News commentator who also drew Trump’s ire.

Saying that McEnany served the Trump administration loyally, Thiessen tweeted that “He’s losing control, going after anyone and everyone who doesn’t toe his line. Sad.”

Trump also referred to his former spokesperson as “Kayleigh ‘Milktoast’ McEnany”, although the term is spelled “milquetoast”.

McEnany, now a Fox News host and commentator, did not comment directly on Trump’s attack. During her time in the White House, she was a strong supporter of Trump, including during his protest against the 2020 election.

In his post disowning his former press secretary, Trump claimed McEnany misstated the size of the margin of a poll showing him leading in the 2024 Republican presidential race.

Some Trump supporters have posted clips of McEnany sometimes criticizing Trump in her role as a Fox News commentator.

Trump has a habit of backfiring on allies no longer useful to him, from attorney Michael Cohen to 2024 Republican presidential challenger Ron DeSantis.

In a tweet, Cohen – who has testified against Trump in various inquests – said “this message from Donald demonstrates that he is mean-spirited, unbalanced and utterly unfit for political office.”
