UN chief urges Israel to suspend and reverse settlement decisions

UNITED NATIONS, June 19 (Reuters) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday urged Israel to suspend and reverse what he described as disturbing and alarming decisions on settlement activities in the occupied West Bank, said a UN spokesman.

“The Secretary-General reiterates that the settlements are a flagrant violation of international law. They constitute a major obstacle to achieving a viable two-state solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace,” the spokesperson said. UN deputy Farhan Haq in a statement. .

“The expansion of these illegal settlements is a major driver of tension and violence and aggravates humanitarian needs,” Haq said.
