‘Trippin’ star with Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris exclusively tells PEOPLE that her mother ‘screamed’ at strangers about her ‘black’ fame, but had qualms with servings at world-class restaurants

For Anthony Anderson, the last 27 years have been almost non-stop work, culminating with the end of Blackish after eight seasons in 2022.
“Due to my work schedule, I didn’t have an extended vacation yet,” Anderson, 52, exclusively told PEOPLE in this week’s issue.
The 11-time Emmy nominee – who shares two children, Kyra, 27, and Nathan, 23, with his ex-wife Alvina Anderson – decided to solve this problem by booking a six-week vacation in Europe with his mother, l actress Doris Bowman.
Their laugh-filled vacation is the subject of their new reality series, Trippin’ with Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris, which premieres Thursday on E!.

The mother-son duo have shared a wealth of experiences traveling through England, France and Italy, including walking the runway at African Fashion Week, taking dining etiquette classes and pulling at the skeet.
While Bowman, 69, enjoyed margherita pizza in Europe, she hated the small portions of food she received when her son offered her food from restaurants that had two Michelin stars.
“There wasn’t enough food on the spoon for my mom to be happy,” Anderson says. “She went to her room and ordered room service.”
“I don’t like oysters and snails,” Bowman adds.

But the hardest part of their trip, according to Anderson, was trying to keep her mother away from “all the young men” as they strolled around town.
“That was the embarrassing part,” he jokes. “It was like, ‘Alright, you tough guys, I’m not going to call you ‘Dad’, but that’s my mom!” … My mother is a big freak, so watch out for yourself.
He later quips:[She ogled men] in every city.”

Although Anderson was recognized for his work on the trip, Bowman always made it a point to tell people who his son was.
“My mum made sure they recognized me,” he recalls. “She wasn’t just telling them, she was yelling at them. It could be people asking for directions or pointing in my direction to the Eiffel Tower, and my mom would be like, ‘That’s my baby!'”
