First lady Jill Biden tests positive for COVID-19; President Biden remains negative

WASHINGTON − First lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday while President Joe Biden tested negative for the virus, the White House said late Monday.

The first lady is “currently experiencing only mild symptoms,” the White House said in a statement. She will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Del, where the first couple was staying for Labor Day weekend.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Biden was administered a COVID test following the first lady’s positive test and he tested negative. Jean-Pierre said the president will “test at a regular cadence this week and monitor for symptoms.”

President Joe Biden traveled from the first couple’s vacation home in Rehoboth Beach to Philadelphia to commemorate Labor Day on Monday.

Previously, the Bidens traveled to Florida together on Saturday to tour damage from Hurricane Idalia.

President Biden arrived back at the White House on Monday while Jill Biden remained in Delaware.
