Man sentenced to 45 years in Boulder County prostitution sex assault case

May 31 – A Boulder sex offender indicted by a grand jury and accused of using drugs and violence to coerce multiple women into prostitution and paying to have sex with a 12-year-old girl was officially convicted. sentenced Wednesday after reaching a plea deal.

Randolph “Randy” Clark, 39, pleaded guilty May 5 in Boulder District Court to two counts of first degree assault, human trafficking and attempted sexual assault of a child. As part of the plea deal, the attorneys agreed that Clark will serve 45 years with the Colorado Department of Corrections.

Boulder District Judge Patrick Butler sentenced him to the agreed sentence of 45 years on Wednesday, following statements read by the victims and their families.

“Their statements to the judge reflect the trauma the defendant inflicted on them, but also their strength and courage,” Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said in a news release, regarding the victims who spoke out. during the hearing.

“This lengthy prison sentence is the right result and certainly deserved. I am grateful to our human trafficking unit and the multi-agency teamwork that has gone into this case. Through their efforts, the victims and the community are safer today.”

The mother of one victim continued to object to the plea deal at Wednesday’s hearing, saying the length of the sentence was too short.

The original indictment included 30 counts, and Clark could have faced up to 155 years to life in prison if convicted on all counts at trial. Clark had gone to trial in June before accepting the plea deal.

The victim’s mother said her daughter had lost some of her innocence and was spending her teenage years dealing with the aftermath of being groomed and then sexually assaulted. For herself, she says, she continues to experience anxiety and panic attacks, especially when her daughter is late, as well as the guilt of feeling disappointed.

“All of these things are a life sentence for me,” she said. “He deserves nothing less than the life sentence he gave me and my daughter.”

Butler replied that there are “a range of reasonable ways to resolve cases”.

“While some people disagree with the provision in this case, it certainly falls within that range of what could be considered reasonable,” he said.

In response to comments from victims and their family members, he added that they had no reason to blame themselves.

“I assure you that none of this is your fault,” he said.

Prosecutors say Scott, through a combination of physical abuse and threats as well as exploiting their drug addiction, coerced the women into commercial sex acts.

According to the indictment, he also had sex with a 12-year-old girl and filmed the act and sent the video to other women. He also paid the girl for oral sex on other occasions.

Clark is a registered sex offender following a conviction for unlawful sexual contact, and also has an extensive criminal history, including previous prostitution-related convictions, according to an affidavit.

Agencies that worked on the case included the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, the Denver Police Department, the Denver District Attorney, the Louisville Police Department, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the Boulder Police Department and the Longmont Police Department.
