Ukraine rejects Chinese calls for an immediate ceasefire

Podolyak made the statement in response to Chinese special envoy Li Hui who allegedly tried to persuade Kiev’s allies to push for an immediate ceasefire in the Russian-Ukrainian war, which would leave much of the south -eastern Ukraine under Russian occupation and control.

“Any ‘compromise scenario’ which does not involve the liberation of all the territories of Ukraine and which ‘anonymous sources’ sometimes speak of within the European and American elites, amounts to recognizing the defeat of democracy, the victory of Russia and the preservation of Putin’s regime,” the official said.

According to Podolyak, such a compromise would lead to an outbreak of armed conflicts around the world.

“And that’s the chimera of Russia,” he stressed.

On May 26, the Wall Street Journal reported that China’s special representative Li Hui, who is tasked with trying to mediate in the conflict, during his visit to Europe called for a ceasefire without withdrawal of Russian troops, which would give Moscow control of almost a fifth of Ukrainian land.
