Zelensky asks Parliament to sanction Iran for 50 years

President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked the Ukrainian parliament to impose additional sanctions against Iran for 50 years, according to the draft resolution following the decision of the National Security and Defense Council.

The plan includes a complete ban on trade with Iran, investment and technology transfer, as well as stopping Iranian transit through Ukrainian territory and prohibiting the withdrawal of Iranian assets from Ukraine.

The Ukrainian parliament must approve the bill for it to become law. The parliament has not yet scheduled the vote, according to its website.

Iran has supplied Russia with military equipment, including the Shahed vagrancy munition which Russia has launched by the hundreds at Ukraine.

The United States and the EU imposed sanctions on Iran for supplying these drones to Russia.

In the recent nighttime drone attack on May 28, Russia launched at least 54 Shahed drones against Ukraine. air defense shot down 52 of themhowever, the debris caused civilian casualties on the ground in Kyiv.
